"A very good inheritance, disguised as a hotel."

Ravenna keeps its best secrets behind unmarked doors, and Casa Masoli is the finest proof of that. There's no sign to speak of — just a buzzer, a heavy bolted door, and then, on the other side, a 17th-century mansion that once belonged to the Rasponi-Bonanzi family, a name that vanished from Ravenna's records without explanation. Whatever happened to them, they left behind vaulted ceilings, surviving fresco fragments, and a house that still feels less like a hotel than someone's very good inheritance.

Rooms
Six suites, each named for a historic Ravenna couple — Teodora e Giustiniano, Galla Placidia e Costanzo — and each entirely its own animal. Expect vaulted or domed ceilings, antique furniture, and in at least one case, a bathroom converted from what used to be a private chapel, complete with a marble bath standing where a baptismal font once did.

Room Pick
A courtyard-facing room, ground or first floor — quieter than the street-side suites, and close enough to the breakfast room that the smell of fresh coffee finds you before your alarm does.

Food & Drink
No restaurant — this is a house, not a hotel, and it wants you out in the city for dinner. Breakfast, though, is the real event: a generous spread of Emilia-Romagna specialties, eggs made to order, and a house cappuccino guests specifically travel back to write about.

The Experience
Anna, the owner, runs the place with the warmth of someone genuinely happy you're there — restaurant recommendations, walking routes to the mosaics, the kind of hospitality that turns a stay into a small friendship. The Ruffini art collection scattered through the rooms only deepens the sense that you're a guest in someone's home, not a customer in their business.

Worth Knowing
No elevator — request a ground-floor room if stairs are a concern. Parking is tight on the street, but a garage sits directly across from the entrance.

Ravenna already asked you not to expect grandeur from its skyline. Casa Masoli is where the city hides it instead — behind a door with no name on it.
