The Fellini Suite (315)

"This is the only hotel in Rimini with a private beach, and one of the only Art Nouveau buildings on the Adriatic still standing exactly as it was."

The road into Rimini runs past beach clubs and neon before it opens onto a park, and there, behind wrought iron gates and a hundred years of legend, stands the hotel a young Federico Fellini used to watch from outside the hedge — imagining, long before he ever set foot inside, that this was what wealth and enchantment looked like. Inaugurated in 1908 and rebuilt after the war, the Grand Hotel Rimini has spent more than a century being exactly what Fellini called it: a fairy tale of richness, luxury, and oriental splendor.

Rooms
The 121 rooms and suites in the historic main building keep their 18th-century Venetian and French antiques, Murano chandeliers, and parquet floors intact — no renovation has ever thinned out the theater of the place. Next door, the Residenza Parco Fellini offers 51 more contemporary rooms for those who want the address without quite so much velvet.

Room Pick
Suite 315 — Fellini's own, booked every time he returned to Rimini, and the closest thing the hotel has to a shrine. If it's taken, ask for a Regal Suite instead; the view of the private beach and the Adriatic beyond does most of the same work.

Food & Drink
The La Dolce Vita restaurant serves a menu built around Fellini's own favorites — fish stew, a saffron risotto nicknamed "8½ and a Half" — while the terrace bar pours cocktails named for his films. Breakfast happens under Murano chandeliers, which is either absurd or exactly right, depending on how you feel about theater with your coffee.

The Experience
This is the only hotel in Rimini with a private beach, and one of the only Art Nouveau buildings on the Adriatic still standing exactly as it was — a national monument since 1994, where suites once hosted Princess Diana, Sophia Loren, and Mikhail Gorbachev without anyone making too much of it.

Worth Knowing
The hotel runs a small in-house museum itinerary through its historic salons, open by reservation — worth an hour even if you're not staying the night.

The Grand Hotel doesn't perform for you. It already did all its performing for Fellini, decades ago, and simply hasn't stopped since.
